 Can you buy kits to change the appearance of your fireplace?
 
Do you know the name of the company that sells a kit to update fireplaces that is similar to painting?

Instead of the brick you could use natural field stone or something similar but that could be a lengthy and costly project. You could do it yourself but a local mason or brick layer could be of more assistance.
