What paint can I use on my fireplace?

We purchased a cool home in Powder Springs and we have a 1970s tiled fireplace which is an ugly dark purple. We would like to update this fireplace by painting over these tiles to a lighter color. What type of paint would be suitable?

Always prime the tiles prior to painting. Home Depot carries a primer that would work on the tiles, then use any color you would like. Also, be sure that the paint is heat tempered.
