Should I replace a wall surround while replacing a shower faucet?

We have an old shower faucet that needs to be replaced with a new unit- That requires entry into the wall. For value should we replace the surround at that time?

Well, it depends- if you can replace the valve from behind the wall (as through a closet). If it is the same style valve (example single handle) then it would be your option to replace the surround if needed. If it is not the same style or if the surround (tile) is of the same age as the faucet, replace the surround at the same time. If replacing it with ceramic tile be sure to use cement board as a base.
