What should I do for basement leaks?

RenoJill, I need your help- Our house was built 1976 on a slab foundation without a basement.-we had a huge storm in April with lots of intermittent rain for several weeks. After about 3 weeks, my daughter stepped in very wet and stinky carpet in closet(no plumbing issue-already investigated that). Could the ground be so saturated outside that it found an avenue to work its way into my house? We've had standing water outside against the house sometimes (due to outside pump not working, which we will fix) but it never reached the foundation top.

If you have not done so already, try to grade or create a slope away from the house so that rain run off is taken away from your foundation house. Get your pump repaired but the saturated soil is also a problem. Place a fan near the closet to dry out the carpet, so it will not develop mold.
