Coordination & Delays:
Besides mid-course changes there will be supply and scheduling issues that may occur. This has to do with 'special-order' products that may take days or weeks to arrive. When the contractor or salesman makes his intitial estimate for the consumer, he should be familiar with the vendor or distributor of building products or check by phone for product availability. The contractor or project manager can then plan when the job can commence and how to coordinate various aspects of the project.
In addition, the customer should be sure that he/she can be contacted at work or by cell phone when not present during the project. Plan not to take a vacation during the project execution, but be aware of work that may raise dust so that you can leave temporarily. Another good peice of advice is not to plan doing projects just before or between major holidays, like Thanksgiving, Christmass and New Years.
Befor the project commences, be sure to make it clear that all cuts will be made outside the home, whether working with studs, ceramic tile or other dust making cuts. Especially in regards to Durock, the ceramic tile backer board mwich contains silicates that if inhaled can cause cancer.
