Open Gazebos are an attractive addition to almost any yard and provide a shaded area for family gatherings, barbeque's and the like. In the first week of March, the weather broke for a few days and I took the opportunity to put one together for a good friend.
He purchased
Sam's Club 15.5 foot aluminum gazebo.
The kit included 12" metal ground spikes and the instructions advised placing on level ground. Well, we decided to pour eight 12" wide by 12" deep pilons using (12"X48") quick-tubes and anchor the posts with (3" long x 3/8's) thick anchor bolts. The pilons were poured the first day and allowed to cure for a couple of days, after which I returned to assemble the the kit. It went together in two days of work. Though the instructions advised the help of several people, I did construct the kit on my own, by following the steps out of order. First the posts were mounted, then the frame.
I assembled the roof panels from the top by using a 6ft tall A frame ladder, working through the metal rafter supports.
After it was erected, we built a simple joist and deck frame around the perimeter of the gazebo with 2X4 deck boards 1/16"gapped. All wood was pressure treated.
