Chimney
In Safety - more than a month ago

A chimney is an important part of the indoor environment. It's purpose is to remove fireplace fumes and poisonous vapors from gas operated appliances.

If it is not properly inspected and maintained, the chimney can become a health threat and even a danger. In time, mortar between the fire bricks can crumble, allowing carbon fumes to leak into the house air. Worse, heat and flame from wood burning in the fireplace can create a fire in the framework of the home.

The chimney should be inspected for obstructions like bird nests, crumbled mortar and loose of missing bricks that would create a serious situation. It should should be inspected and repaired where necessary at the roof line to prevent moisture leaks and wall and floor damage. In the event that the chimney is used for wood burning, annual cleaning should be prevent flammable creosote from becoming a fire hazard.
