Tired of the way your walls look? Remodeling doesn't always mean spending a small fortune. In many cases the solution could be superficial. Color is appreciably one of the most difficult aspects to decide on and overwhelming when considering how to coordinate with furniture for example. Nevertheless, with good color coordination a dull room can become mood enhancing.
Choosing a color scheme often seems to be confined to individual ideas and tendencies, not necessarily based upon experience. Even many painters aren't necessarily informed enough to know what looks good. One rule of thumb is to base the color scheme on something in the room, such as a carpet or the furniture, perhaps an art work. There is also the rule that warm and cool colors not be contrasted.
When I am assisting a customer repaint I try to advise based upon what is happening in the room. Consider the whole picture. A discusion involving options like wallpaper, wainscot, texture or other wall applications will precede the final painting of the project. I often suggest the use of pastels, off-whites or perhaps medium toned colors. One of my favorite schemes is the richness of white gloss on trim work with wine red walls. I also like the demensional effect of paneled walls by using paneled doors cut in half and attached to the wall.
Find a design in a friend's home or online and make it happen or use part of it. Don't rely on old ideas about colors. Discuss your project with others, get ideas and implement them with a little imagination.
